What is breathwork?
Breathwork is trending right now as a transformational tool, but it’s not new.
Breathwork has been around since the dawn of Yoga and Meditation, so it’s been around for thousdands of years.
Ancient breathwork techniques were collectively called Pranayama.
The breathwork techniques we practice in modern time are either still the pure Pranayama techniques or Pranayama techniques that have been modernized, tweaked, improved, or enhanced with a deeper, new age wisdom and scientific backing.
Breathwork uses the breath.
Benefits of Breathwork
On each inhale we take in air. This air has oxygen and nitrogen in it that has healing, cleansing and energizing properties for the body. The air we breathe in also contains Prana. Prana is known as ‘life force energy’.
On each exhale we release tension, toxins, carbon dioxide, water, waste products and stagnant energy.
In Breathwork we change the rhythm, timing, intensity, breath holding, add sounds, use the nose or the mouth, and add intentions and visualizations. Each technique will address a specific need, but in general breathwork has the follow benefits:
- Releases toxins from the body.
- Releases stress from the system.
- Improves energy flow through the physical body.
- Improves energy flow through the Pranic body.
- Nourishes the mind.
- Alkalizes the blood Ph.
- Strengthens the diaphragm.
- Has an anti-inflammatory effect within the body.
- Speeds up healing.
- Enhances and balances the mood.
Some techniques help with relaxation and sleep.
Some techniques help cognitive ability, memory, concentration, alertness and sharpen the mind.
Some improve sport, athletic and exercise performance.
Some open up our consciousness to higher vibration and deeper spiritual connection with our higher self and the Divine.
Breathwork always works on the autonomic nervous system, which is our system that regulates everything in the body including our emotional regulation and stress coping ability.
Other breathwork techniques release trauma, blocks, old patterns, habits and addictions.
