What is Movement Therapy (Dance Movement Therapy)
Movement / Dance Movement Therapy is using movement to process emotional, mental or behavioral health. It is a form of somatic psychotherapy that uses physical movement.
Movement / Dance Movement Therapy is a great way to express emotions and feelings that are sometimes not easily expressed verbally. So it is a form of no-verbal communication.
It is a facilitated session that begins with guidance and eventually leads to the participant being free to express themselves however they want through movement.

A variety of music is used to access different ways to feel, move and express.
No dance experience is required and sessions are catered for all different body abilities.

It is a facilitated session that has guided instructions as well as time to move freely.
There is a theme to each session to help with focus, direction and intention.
We start off slow and begin with smaller movements to connect deep with the body.
As the session unfolds the movement become bigger and more expressive.
There will be individual work, sometimes we work in pairs or in a group to create deeper connection with ourselves and others.

Breath, as well as the movement, is a key component in the session.
A variety of music is used to access different ways to feel, express and release.
A variety of movement styles, dance styles and dance techniques are offered. We do not limit the session to a particular dance technique but include all forms of movement, dance and expression.
All emotions are accepted and clients are free to sing, cry, shout and move as they need to release pain, emotion, tension and stress.
All forms of creativity and imagination are welcomed.
We end the session by slowing down again and coming into stillness which leads to meditation / relaxation.
