Power of Sound

As we have read in blog 1 of 5, everything in the universe is vibrating. The rate at which something vibrates is called a frequency and this frequency creates waves. There are different types of waves; for example sound waves, radio waves and light waves.
In this blog we are looking at sound waves / sound frequencies.

The body vibrates at a certain frequency, and if we apply frequency of sound to the body, the body will get affected by that specific frequency.

Let’s also note here that the 10 bodies: Physical Body, Negative mind, Positive mind, Neutral mind, Pranic Body, Radiant Body, Soul Body, Subtle Body, Electromagnetic Field and Arc-line vibrate at different frequencies. So when we apply a sound on ourselves, it will affect all the bodies simultaneously.

When we hear a sound with our ears it stimulates the Vagus Nerve. The Vagus Nerve is the longest cranial nerve in the body, moving from our brain through the thoracic cavity into the abdominal cavity. It regulates the functions of many organs including the heart, lungs, stomach, spleen, kidneys, liver and gall bladder. It is associated with the thyroid, parathyroid, thymus and pancreas glands. It regulates blood pressure, heart rate, breathing capacity, the parasympathetic nervous system, sweating, digestion, inflammation control and even talking. So a sound that we hear will affect all of these organs and functions of the body.

Sound also affects the hypothalamus, pituitary gland and the pineal gland. These glands regulate the hormonal and chemical systems of the body, and so in turn regulate feelings and emotions. These glands are also involved in higher functions like thinking, visualisation, intuition, meditation, and connecting to our true nature.

Some sound frequencies create healing, rejuvenation, calmness, raise our consciousness and bring about positive change in our being. Others cause damage, increase negative emotions, negative thinking, lowers our consciousness and creates disease.

Harmful Sounds

You will know if you have been affected by a harmful sound as you will experience headaches, ringing in the ears, tension in the body, dizziness, nausea, eye pain and hearing loss.
These are sounds that are loud, dis-harmonious and at frequencies that are harmful for the body.

Some of these sounds are:

– Cars racing on a race track, Harley Davidsons, subway trains.

– Airplanes taking off, flying and landing.

- Machines like microwaves, vacuum cleaners, lawnmowers, jackhammers, chainsaws, leaf blowers.

- Rock concerts and sports crowds.

– Songs sung with anger, hate or rage.

– Listening to songs that have hate, swearing, violence, anger and rage in them.

– Sounds that are disjointed and not in harmony.

– Fire alarms.

You don’t have to figure this out on your own.

Different Healing Sounds:

We don’t just hear sound with our ears, we also perceive or feel it through our skin and bones. Sound affects all cells of the body and, as mentioned above, all 10 bodies.

Internal Healing Sounds

We have the ability to make sounds with our body. When we consciously regulate the sounds we make ourselves we can produce profound effects on our health and well-being.

1. Chanting Mantras
Mantras, whether chanted loud, whispered, or silently recited, are very powerful.

There are eighty-four meridian points on the upper palate of the mouth. Each time the tongue hits these meridian points it sends signals to the pituitary gland which in turn regulates our immune function, endocrine functions and emotions.
Mantras are designed to stimulate the WAY we sing, by changing tongue and mouth movement and changing breath. These all change our state of being. Adding the actual sound we make with the tapping of the tongue to the palate, we then have a fantastically powerful combination for healing and raising our awareness and consciousness.

Here are a couple Kriyas / Meditation with mantra you can practice:

  • Healing with the Siri Giatri Mantra
  • Smiling Buddha Kriya
  • Sat Kriya.

2. Whistling

Whistling stimulates and balances the Vagus Nerve.

3. Breathing

Specifically breathing with sound (this is not snoring though…). It is breathing practices like Ujjay Breath or Breath Of Fire, where you hear the sound of your breath either in the nostrils or in the throat. There is a special connection between the higher functions of the pineal gland and the use of the breath.

External Healing Sound

1. The Gong

The Gong is the most effective external healing sound. It affects all 10 bodies. It works deep into every cell for total healing, transformation and meditation. This is because it covers the full spectrum of sound.

2. Crystal Singing Bowls tuned to 432Hz

Crystal singing bowls are made of pure crystal quartz. This gives them a strong, effective sound. Each bowl is related to a specific Chakra. The bowls also create deep meditative states and expanded awareness.

3. Tibetan / Himalayan Sound Bowls

Tibetan / Himalayan Sound Bowls move the brain into Theta brain waves which are associated with deep states of meditation. They restore the out-of-harmony parts of the body, mind, emotions and the soul.

4. Tuning Forks

Tuning forks are metal forks that when hit resonate at a certain frequency. The forks are applied to different parts of the body. This help release tension and energy blocks in that area.

5. Solfeggio Sounds / Frequencies

Solfeggio Sounds are special tones that bring about harmony for specific needs. You can listen to them in a recording. Each Solfeggio Sound is comprised of a specific frequency required to balance your energy and keep your body, mind and spirit in perfect harmony. I often play Solfeggio sounds as background sound my Kundalini Yoga classes or Reiki sessions.

6. Brainwave Entrainment OR Binaural Beats

Binaural beats change the brain waves by creating a pulsating sound effect. Crystal bowls, The Gong and binaurally specifically designed music creates this effect. Usually the sound alternates between left and right ear. Different binaural beats create different effects, so you can chose certain ones for improving focus, helping with sleeping, meditation or releasing anxiety.

So if you want to raise your vibrations use sound.
