Ancient civilization hacking

Yogis, Sages, the ancient civilisations like the Egyptians, and even the Himalayan Monks have known about and practiced biohacking for centuries. They created habits, systems and processes that they followed daily to enhance performance – both physically and mentally – to keep staying youthful and disease free, and to enhance spiritual growth and release karma. They did not have the technology, that we have today, to record and prove their changes, successes and results, but they had a deep understanding of energy, wisdom of how things work and intuition that guided them.

They also didn’t call their systems and processes: hacking or biohacking. Instead they equated their longevity, energy and bliss to daily habits, routines and sadhanas.

So it’s interesting to note that many of the biohacks we work with today can be traced back to our ancestors.

Actually a lot of forerunners of the biohacking community looked to our ancestors for answers to hack our biology and wellness for our modern day.

Cold water therapy has been used in yogic traditions and Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. Today it has been made popular by the Wim-Hoff  Technique as well as biohacker and fitness guru; Ben Greenfield. It is even used in the therapy of DBT  (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy) where cold water is used as a hack to shift a person out of the distressed cycle.

In yogic traditions there is a branch called Saucha which translates to mean: purification. It is a practice of purification of our external and internal environments. This includes cleansing of the digestive system. One of the ways to clear the lower digestive system is through doing an enema. Today enemas are gaining popularity as a way to flush out toxins and improve digestion. In our modern day, we have supercharged this practice by adding coffee to the water enema for faster results…. but the practice  still has it roots from ancient cleansing habits.

Busting the myth that our Genes and DNA rule our life.

In scientific past we were taught and led to believe that we could not change ourselves in any way, that we were given a certain set of genes and DNA, and that these were set.

If we had, according to our genes and DNA,  a genetic per-disposition to an illness (due to family history), we were fated to get that illness.

We used to think that we had no ability to alter our heart rate, blood pressure or  the way our organs function at our will. We believed that our physiology was set and we had not influence over it.

We used to believe that doctors and pills were the way that we got healthy and healed.

Busting the myth: Non of of this is true.

Since the 1970’s a science has been established called Epigenetics. Epigenetics explains how our environment, our lifestyle choices, our behaviors and even our beliefs cause changes within our cells to affect the way our genes and DNA function. DNA cannot be changed, but HOW the DNA responds and functions can be changed.

This means that we are not doomed to get a hereditaory illness just because we have the genes for it.

This means that we can change EVERYTHING about the functionality of our physiology.

This means that we are the healers of our own body. Our bodies are always healing and moving into homeostatic balance… this is what the body does. When we expose our body to the right environment it speeds up the healing process.

We create our reality

Epigenetics shows us that our environment, our lifestyle choices, our behaviors, our thoughts and our beliefs change the way our genes and DNA function.

Environmental choices are the food we eat, the air we breathe, the quality of water we drink, the location of our home, the music we listen to, our work environment, how much pollution and toxins we expose ourselves to, our exposure to EMF, etc.

Our lifestyle choices are the people we chose to spend most of our time with, the places we tend to frequent, the physical activities we partake in, the amount of our spiritual practice we do, our relationship with money and wealth, our religious practices, our hygiene and cleanliness habits, etc.

Some of our behaviors are tied into our lifestyle choices that include our habits around the food we eat, drugs (whether natural, synthetic, plant medicine, or recreational) we consume, our sleeping patterns, our waking patterns, etc.

Our behaviors also cover the learned patterns such as how to cope with stress, how to be in a relationship or be around friends, how we react when triggered, the baggage and story we carry from our past that influences our actions and behaviors.

Now here is the interesting part. Our thoughts and our beliefs also change the way our DNA and Genes function. This means that EVERY thought we have is creating our reality. Every thought is creating a cascade of stimulus in our body and our energy. Our brain function, our nervous system, our hormonal system and our energy systems all receive signals through our thoughts and alter the functionality of cells and DNA accordingly.

 

Therefore a negative thought alters the environment of  the cells in the body and creates a negative environment – like build up of toxins, inflammation, degeneration, pain, organs not functioning properly, hormones out of wack, or cellular shut down. The long term effect of a negative environment creates a negative outcome like cancer, illness, autoimmune disease, chronic pain, chronic condition, heart issues, lack of energy, sleeping disorders, addictions, mood swings, metabolic issues, etc.

When we hold onto an old belief or story like – ‘I have abandonment issues’, ‘I struggle in relationships with women’, ‘I had a traumatic upbringing’, ‘I was bullied at school’,  ‘I have always been full of fear’, ‘ I am fat’ – we are signaling to the body that this is truth and current reality. The body cannot distinguish between past, present and future. It interoperates every thought, every belief and every action as happening now and being present. So it responds accordingly.

If you believe that you will get cancer. The belief will create this type of environment in your cells to be more susceptible to getting cancer.
If you believe you can heal from a terminal disease you will create the environment in your cells to be able to heal.

This is why it is so important to be aware of what you think, what you say to yourself, what you say about yourself and the language you use every day. This is why I’ve dedicated a page on this website to affirmations.

Biohacking and Biohabits

We can hack just about anything. We can reverse aging and increase longevity. We can enhance exercise and sport performance. We can change the shape of our body. 

There are hacks and habits for improved sleep,  improved memory and brain activity,  improved  libido.

There are hacks to bring in abundance and prosperity.

There are hacks for manifestation.

There are hacks and habits to increase consciousness, spiritual awareness and spiritual growth.

We can heal and thrive through habits and biohacks.
